Meet the Creator:

Me, Making and hammering an item at my desk in 2023

Hi! My name is Suzie Horne, and I do “all the things” at Curlicue NZ.  When you wear Curlicue NZ jewellery, you get affordable luxury with natural beauty.  You’ll feel good about yourself wearing gorgeous pieces that are also good for the planet. It’s sustainable elegance you can treasure for years to come.

This is a one-woman operation – just me, designing and handcrafting every piece in my solar-powered home studio. Running Curlicue NZ as a part-time business allows me to maintain the quality and personal touch that makes each piece special, while working around my health needs.   Please allow 2-5 business days for creation before shipping.

What Curlicue NZ Customers Say:

What is environmentally friendly jewellery?

All Curlicue NZ pieces are made by my hands: from cutting, smoothing and carefully wrapping the wires; to hammering (to harden and keep its shape or texturise); and then finally sanding and polishing the piece.

Handmade artisan pieces are made with 100% recycled .925 Sterling Silver or .935 Argentium Silver (more tarnish-resistant) or  Copper wires. This is purchased from either Morris & Watsons or Regal, in New Zealand – keeping it NZ made!

You can find out more about what “Sustainable Jewellery” really is, and how I use it here.

Silver wires and sections of chain are the main recycled metal materials that are used in my metal jewellery designs, though I also have a collection of earrings (called R3) that are crafted from repurposed plastic milk bottles – and I’m constantly thinking of other sustainable materials I can use.

I do also aim for zero waste by hand-making some of the small findings such as hooks, clasps and jump rings from left over bits of wire. All the other bits are collected up to eventually be re-melted and used again.

Jewellery Repairs are another service I offer, along with up-cycling or re-using older jewellery components (such as beads or stones from family heirlooms and treasures) to recreate new environmentally friendly heirloom jewellery.
